Beginning October 1, 2020, Trans Hernando, a program of Mid Florida Community Services, Inc. (MFCS), will begin providing at-no-cost transportation services to eligible Hernando County veterans for outpatient medical needs and appointments at VA hospitals, a service that was previously offered through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“I am extremely proud of the new relationship between MFCS and Hernando County Veteran Services to provide transportation for our county veterans to and from the Tampa VA Medical Center,” said Hernando County Veteran Services Manager Tony Graham.  “This service will provide an excellent, no-cost benefit to our veteran community and reestablish their ability to receive much needed medical care and testing that benefits their overall health. MFCS is highly dedicated to providing this service to our County veterans, and will be a great partner to us.”

Trans Hernando currently operates the Veterans Ride Program, and this partnership will be an expansion of that program. Since program inception in 2016, Trans Hernando has provided over 12,490 trips through the Veterans Ride Program, and has saved Hernando County veterans $49,960 as a result of the reduced ridership fee.

“Our main focus is to help those in need.  This partnership gives Mid Florida Community Services the opportunity to offer a specialized service at no cost to our veterans,” says MFCS CEO Michael Georgini.  “I am honored that Mid Florida Community Services has the opportunity to provide quality transportation services to veterans in Hernando County.  I am pleased that we can do something so small to support these individuals in their efforts to live independently.  We stand ready to support those who have served.”

Trans Hernando is a shared-ride system that provides door-to-door transportation services, primarily to meet medical and nutritional need. Ambulatory and wheelchair transportation are available (all vehicles are wheelchair and ADA accessible).  To learn more about Trans Hernando, please call 352-799-1510.
