Microplastics 101 at the January 8 Nature Coast Native Plant Society meeting
The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at The Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd/US 41, Land O’ Lakes, 34639, between SR 52 and SR 54.
The subject of the Tuesday, January 8, 2019, meeting is “Microplastics 101”, presented by Lara Milligan. Learn about the growing science of microplastics. We will be introduced to their everyday presence and the issues they pose to Tampa Bay and possibly human health.
Lara is the Natural Resources Agent for UF/IFAS Extension in Pinellas County. She is stationed at Brooker Creek Preserve in Tarpon Springs, but has county-wide responsibilities. She works on a variety of natural resource issues with a focus on public education. Her areas of focus include: wildlife, water, invasive species, backyard habitat and urban forestry. Before starting her current job, Lara attended the University of Florida where she earned her Bachelors and Masters degree in Natural Resource Conservation with a certificate in Environmental Education.
Meetings of the Chapter are free, and all interested parties are invited to attend, to bring questions about their yard, and participate in light refreshments and the native plant drawing. Telephone inquiries are taken by Sandy at (727) 207-1853.
