The city’s new festival venue at the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport will be christened at the Pigz in Z’hills BBQ & Blues Festival on Jan. 21, 2017, but it needs a name.
To that end, the Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce has launched a naming contest to find a moniker for the event site. After all, you can’t just keep calling it a venue.
Born at 14-acres, the event site, features a 20-by-40 stage and 50 spaces equipped with water and electric as well as additional space for free-standing vendors, car shows, business expos and children’s activities.
Names must be submitted by January 6, 2017. The name may reflect the purpose, location and history of the site. Double entendres will not be considered and the name should not seem to indicate that its sole purpose is barbecue.
The venue will be used for a variety of events and fundraisers organized by non-profit organizations. Several organizations have expressed interest in using the event site including the Rotary Club of Zephyrhills, Thomas Promise Foundation, Ride for Hospice and Paulie Palooza. Melonie Monson, executive director at the Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce said that there were other possible events waiting in the wings such as a rebirth of the Zephyrhills Celtic Festival and a Balloon Fest.
The venue is located at 5200 Airport Rd. and will be owned and operated by the City of Zephyrhills, the city contributed $30,000 to its construction. Florida Hospital Zephyrhills donated $30,000 to build a permanent stage.
