Nature Coast Volunteer Center Schedules Special Needs Call Down Drill

By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on May 24, 2017

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), a program of the Nature Coast Volunteer Center (NCVC) is hosting a Special Needs Call-Down Drill.

It will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The training exercise is being sponsored in partnership with Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Section.

NCVC, the lead agency for volunteers and donations in Citrus County emergency activations, hosts the drill semi-annually to prepare in the event Emergency Management declares an evacuation.

Volunteers are needed to assist with contacting the Special Needs registrants and verifying their contact information. In the event of an actual evacuation Special Needs registrants would be contacted by volunteers to confirm they have transportation to evacuate safely. At the opening of this training session all volunteers will be briefed on procedure and a script will be provided for volunteers to follow.

All participants will receive a certificate of attendance and have the option of registering with the Volunteer Center so they may be called upon to serve during an actual evacuation. Refreshments will be served.

The training will be held at the Citrus County Transit Center, 1300 S. Lecanto Hwy. in Lecanto.  For registration and more information, call the Nature Coast Volunteer Center at 352-527-5959 or e-mail [email protected].
