On July 26, 2018, citizens of Citrus County met at the Hen House Café in Inverness to create a non-profit corporation named Dementia Education, Inc. dedicated to supporting projects, publications, and other activities and services leading to a better understanding of memory diseases and improved compassionate care.

The Hen House was selected for the meeting in honor of its having been the first business in Citrus County to be trained and certified Dementia Friendly, in June 2015.  Since then, more than 50 businesses and churches in the county have been trained and certified Dementia Friendly.

Pictured here with Hen House owner Kim Speckner, center, are directors and officers of the new corporation: Janet Mulligan, Secretary; Ron Lundberg, Director; Susan Fogarty, Vice-President; Debbie Selsavage, Director; and Ed Youngblood, President.  Not pictured is Lee Cooper, Treasurer.
