Hernando Audubon Society Meeting:
Thursday, November 21. Potluck dinner at 6 p.m. at Community Activity Center, 205 E. Ft. Dade Ave. in Brooksville. Bring a place setting and a dish to share. Birding trips and other activities:
Bird Box Buildathon: Saturday, November 2. Hernando Audubon Society and Chinsegut Conservation Center are sponsoring, a family-friendly (ages 3 and up) day of activities, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Assemble a birdhouse of your choice with assistance on site. Or build a bat house with Florida Bat Conservancy, take home a tree frog tube, or build a solitary bee house with IFAS. This will be held at Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, Hernando County. For information, call Chinsegut: 352-754-6722.
Hernando Audubon Florida Scrub-Jay Trip: Wednesday, November 6, see Florida Scrub-Jays at Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenways (Marion County). Laurie Dolan, a Florida State Park Service environmental specialist, will lead a walk of less than a mile as she describes the habitat needs and conservation efforts for this endangered species. At 7:30 a.m. meet at the SW 49th Avenue Trailhead in Ocala. To carpool from Hernando County, meet at 6:30 at Sunrise Plaza, just east of I-75 on SR-50. Hernando Audubon workday at Florida Audubon’s Ahhochee Hill Sanctuary: Saturday, November 16, 9 a.m. at 24268 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville (Hernando County). We will do annual maintenance on Eastern Bluebird nest boxes and other clean-up projects on the property. For information, contact Marcie, 352-860-3921, marcieclutter@yahoo.com
Hernando Audubon Beginning Birding: Friday, November 22, at 8 a.m. at Chinsegut Conservation Center (23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville). Learn to identify birds at feeders and during a short walk.
