The City of New Port Richey is proud to announce that the Florida League of Cities recently recognized Mayor Rob Marlowe with a 2019 Home Rule Hero Award.

Mayor Marlowe earned this prestigious award for his tireless efforts to advance the League’s legislative agenda and help protect the Home Rule powers of Florida’s cities during the 2019 legislative session.  It is the second consecutive year Mayor Marlowe has received this award.

“The dedication and effort of these local officials during the 2019 legislative session was extraordinary,” said Florida League of Cities Legislative Director Scott Dudley. “These are some of our biggest advocates for municipal issues, and they’re shining examples of local advocacy in action. On behalf of the League and its legislative team, we’re proud to recognize each and every one of them and thank them for their service.”

Home Rule is the ability for a city to address local problems through and by local decision makers with minimal state interference. The Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials – both elected and nonelected – who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective to an issue. 

Mayor Rob Marlowe stated, “I am honored to be recognized again this year for advocating on behalf of our residents the importance of Home Rule.” 

Mayor Marlowe received his award at the Suncoast League of Cities Annual Awards Dinner on May 18, 2019, in Dunedin.
