Each year, October is designated as Energy Awareness Month, and Community Action agencies across the nation, like Mid Florida Community Services, Inc., work to help make the energy sector more equitable.

Mid Florida Community Services, Inc., Recognizes October as Energy Awareness Month

The Weatherization Assistance Program, the nation’s largest residential energy efficiency program, was initiated by the U.S. Department of Energy in 1976 to help states and communities assist low-income families in having more energy-efficient, safe, and healthy homes.

Through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), Mid Florida Community Services, Inc. (MFCS), helps to reduce the monthly energy burden on low-income households by providing permanent solutions by installing cost-effective, energy-efficient materials and services.  Weatherization technicians use computerized energy audits and advanced diagnostic technologies to determine the most cost-effective measures for each home.

Households that have been weatherized enjoy reduced heating and cooling costs, and can save at least $283 per year. Therefore, household money is made available for other basic necessities such as groceries, doctor bills, and prescriptions.

“Each year, throughout our service area, MFCS is able to weatherize, preserve, or otherwise improve more than 90 housing units through the Weatherization Assistance Program,” said MFCS CEO Michael Georgini.  “Weatherization work makes a difference every day for low-income families.”

MFCS operates WAP in Hernando, Sumter, Pasco, Volusia, and Citrus Counties.  To learn more about the Weatherization Assistance Program, please visit our website, www.mfcs.us.com, or call 352-796-1425.
