Old Homosassa Learning Center’s After School Tutoring and Skills Development Program

By Kathy Green Posted on September 20, 2017

The volunteers at the Homosassa Civic Club have been working for the last several weeks on getting the Old Homosassa Learning Center (OHLC) ready for the fall programs.

Floors and walls have been painted, furniture cleaned and rearranged and a new coordinator hired!

Ruth Toner-Hatfield agreed to run the After School Tutoring and Skills Development Program this year and has SO MANY GREAT IDEAS!

Ruth and her husband Tim are both retired educators.  Well, I guess Ruth isn’t retired anymore.  She’s ready to take on a new challenge and Tim will be helping with the kids, too.

Starting September 25th, the session will run Monday through Friday from 3:30 – 5:30 and follow the Citrus County School District’s schedule.

Open to second through fifth grade students of the Homosassa Elementary School, the program is planned to support academic growth and skills development through a variety of activities such as yoga by Tiffany Beck on Tuesdays from 5:00 – 5:30,  music fun on Wednesdays, and costume creation and sewing on Thursdays.

Oh yeah, there will be tutoring and homework help, too!

The number of children enrolled will be limited so that the individual needs can be met for each child.

And there is NO CHARGE for any of it.  The OHLC is a committee of the Homosassa Civic Club and supported by the club, but donations of healthy snacks, juice, water, and craft supplies are always appreciated!

The phone number for the Civic Club is 352-628-9333.  The OHLC is located right across the street from the Homosassa Elementary School at W. Yulee Drive, Homosassa.
