Old Homosassa Learning Center’s Summer Program
So happy to announce that Jessica MacRae is the summer coordinator at the Old Homosassa Learning Center this year.
Jessica currently teaches Freshman English at Crystal River High School and is taking on this role during her summer break.
The 8-week summer program started on Monday, June 5th, and the last day is July 28th. (Closed for July 4th) Open to kids 7-years-old and up plus High School students are welcome to volunteer and they will receive community hours. Jessica updates the Learning Center Blog with the schedule every Friday.
As long as the weather cooperates, the plan is two hours playing outside and then two hours with indoor fun. Snacks and drinks are provided.
On Monday Jessica introduced the kids to badminton. Not one of them had ever played nor even knew what it was. But they caught on fast!
They also planted seeds in moist paper towels inside a plastic bag and left them on the window sill to sprout. Then they made self-watering planters.
Tuesday’s outdoor fun was water balloon fights!
Most of the Nature Coast received much needed rain on Tuesday which made the water balloon fight even more fun! As long as there isn’t any thunder, the kids will stay outside and play in the rain. Towels and a change of clothes are recommended!
The most exciting part about the summer program is that it is FREE! The Homosassa Civic Club sponsors the Old Homosassa Learning Center but the generous donations of our local community and the volunteers are a big part of making this program happen!
