Orchid Course offered March 4-25 at Hernando County UF/IFAS office

The Hernando County Extension office is offering a 4 week course (16 hrs. of classroom and hands-on instruction) given by orchid expert and Master Gardener Gary Gethen. Gary has almost 30 yrs. of experience with orchids as both a hobbyist and professional.

This will be a hands on class for the novice as well as advanced and participants are encouraged to bring an orchid to class. You may have one you have been afraid to separate or one that may need repotting. Please bring your own pot. There will be potting medium.

If you have an orchid that you’re concerned about its health, you may bring a leaf or your plant to be diagnosed but make sure it is in a plastic bag so we don’t spread any disease.

The topics to be covered are:

  • Insects and Diseases
  • Best Orchids for Beginners
  • Orchid Potting
  • The Art of Mounting Orchids
  • Misting Systems

The $65.00 cost includes all 4 classes and a binder of all the class materials. Sign-up for this series is limited to only 10 participants, so don’t delay registering!
