The Pasco County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Department is challenging other Pasco County Departments – and the public – to take part in the Third Annual Cardboard Boat Race on Saturday, July 15, 2017. The race for the boat with the fastest time across the pool will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park Pool located at 14333 Hicks Road in Hudson, Florida.
“This event creates a fun and competitive environment,” said Rob Mahler, Pasco County Parks Site Supervisor. “County departments challenge each other in a friendly competition for a year’s worth of bragging rights and then our pool patrons can get in on the fun, too.”
Staff from Emergency Management, Libraries, Facilities, Fleet and Fire Rescue have accepted the challenge to race. The public is encouraged to come cheer them on, and then immediately following the County Department races, they, too, will have an opportunity to race their cardboard creations.
Build your boat today – using only cardboard, duct tape and paper tubes. Paddles will be provided. For complete rules, visit the 2017 Aquatics Special Events webpage.

Two competitions are open to the public: a Timed Race across the pool and a Last Boat Floating contest. The Cardboard Boat Race is a unique opportunity to test your design, building and racing skills. Social groups, families, friends and business organizations are encouraged to enter. You don’t have to register in advance – just show up with your boat and be ready to set sail! Regular pool entry fees apply: $4.00 per adult / $3.00 per child. Kids two and under get in free.
The Veterans Memorial Park Pool is open Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. For more details visit the Veterans Memorial Park Pool website or call 727.861.3033.
