Florida’s premiere figure skating event comes to Wesley Chapel

The competition is heating up on the ice again in Pasco County!  Pasco will host the annual Sunshine State Games Figure Skating Championships at Florida Hospital Center Ice in Wesley Chapel, May 18 – 20, 2018.

For the first time, the Florida Sports Foundation selected Pasco County to be the host community for the prestigious, annual Olympic-style program.  The Sunshine State Games attracts athletes of all ages and skill levels from throughout Florida.

“We’re excited to host the most important figure skating event in Florida,” said Pasco Tourism Program Manager Consuelo Sanchez.  “Exceptional teamwork among the Office of Tourism Development, Florida Hospital Center Ice and local clubs created this opportunity.”

The Sunshine State Games Figure Skating Championships is presented by the Florida Sports Foundation, a Division of Enterprise Florida, Inc., and the official sports promotion and development organization for the State of Florida.

Florida Hospital Center Ice was also the training home for the USA Hockey Women’s National Team that won gold in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.  The state-of-the-art facility has hosted multiple National USA Hockey championships and is the training home for international athletes – including six-time French national champion figure skating pair Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres.

“We’re proud that Pasco County is being recognized nationally as a sports destination,” said Sanchez.  “These events bring athletes and their families, and our growing list of entertainment and accommodations keeps them coming back.”
