Pasco Residents dispose of 32 Tons of Hazardous Waste
Pasco’s Most successful one-day Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Pasco County Utilities staff collected 63,757 lbs. (32 tons) of hazardous materials during the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection (HHW) event at the West Pasco Government Center on December 9, 2017, surpassing last year’s total of 27 tons!
“This collection event is becoming more popular in Pasco,” said Environmental/Hazardous Manager Charles Ryburn. “Every year, Pasco residents are removing more hazardous waste from our household garbage stream and preventing pollution in the process.”
Pasco County staff helped unload 595 cars and trucks in 6 hours. The following is a list of hazardous waste collected and diverted from the solid waste stream:
- 21,900 pounds of latex paint
- 11,354 pounds of household chemicals
- 80 lead acid batteries
- 800 pounds of household batteries
- 25 propane tanks
- 220 gallons of used oil/antifreeze/gasoline
- 424 mercury-containing lamps
- 24,043 pounds of electronics recycling
