Pine Island Reopens for Swimming

By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on August 25, 2017

The Florida Department of Health in Hernando County announces that Pine Island Beach, located at 10840 Pine Island Drive in Spring Hill, is now re-open for swimming.

On August 18, a swimming advisory was issued due to high bacteria levels, a common occurrence in many areas of Florida during the heavy summer rains. Testing that occurred on August 22 indicated the water quality now falls within the “Good” category.

Categories for the Department of Health’s Florida Healthy Beaches Program are as follows:
* Good = 0-35 Enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
* Moderate = 36-70 Enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
* Poor = 71 or greater Enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
