Pre-Register Now for Wildlife Ranger Camps in June & July

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will offer two weeklong Wildlife Ranger Camps in June and July. The Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park sponsor the programs.

June’s Wildlife Ranger Camp is for children ages 8 and 9 years old, and runs June 19 through June 23. July’s Wildlife Ranger Camp is for children ages 10 through 12, and runs from July 17 through July 21.

Applications for the Wildlife Ranger Camp are available in the park office. Each program is limited to 24 campers and will be filled on a first come basis with preference to those who have never attended before.

Each Wildlife Ranger Camp includes five, half-day camp sessions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday The cost of the program is $75 per child and includes a T-shirt and supplies.

Applicants will be asked to write a short essay on an animal that lives in Florida and why you think that animal is important to attach to their application. Camp topics include mammals, birds, reptiles, manatees, the ocean, sea turtles, and saving energy through alternative sources. Indoor and outdoor activities for children include nature hunts, visiting the wildlife areas in the park and other scientific activities.
