Registration begins March 13 and ends April 6, 2017. The early bird entry fee is $35 through March 24. The price increases to $40 on March 25. Proceeds will go to the Gulf Coast Academy of Science and Technology Center to build and maintain a salt marsh grass nursery to help complete living shoreline and fisheries enhancement projects along the Hernando County coastline.
“This is an exciting event for a great cause,” Chairman Wayne Dukes said. “This new coastal amenity will serve our residents and provide yet another reason for tourists to visit Hernando County’s Adventure Coast.”
The creation of the new Bayport-Linda Pedersen Paddling Trail was a collaborative effort among Hernando County Waterways, Extension, Tourism Development and Parks and Recreation departments. While kayaking, canoeing or paddle boarding this scenic trail through Jenkins Creek, with a short jaunt to Redfish Bayou, you will be immersed in a vibrant, tidal estuary home to a variety of wildlife. Paddlers can access this nearly five-mile winding waterway for free from official launch sites at both Bayport and Linda Pederson parks.
