Salishan Gracious Retirement Living, located at 191 Astaire Lane in Spring Hill, Florida will present on March 2, 2018, a free educational workshop on Alzheimer’s and dementia.  The two-hour presentation will run from 3 to 5 p.m. and is open to the public.

Salishan Activity Coordinator Ana Raposo states, “While Salishan Gracious Retirement Living is not precisely a memory care facility, the topic of Alzheimer’s and dementia is of growing interest to retirement-age individuals and their families.  We are pleased to have a role in providing accurate and up-to-date information on this important topic.”

The workshop, entitled ABCs of Dementia, will be conducted by Debbie Selsavage, President of Coping with Dementia LLC.  Selsavage is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, a licensed assisted living facility administrator, a certified trainer in the Positive Approach to Care, a published author on the topic of dementia care, and President of directors of the Alzheimer’s Family Organization.

Selsavage explains, “Our workshop will explain what Alzheimer’s and dementia are, what one can expect from this progressive disease, how to be a better and less-stressed caregiver, and what resources are available to individuals living with dementia.”  She adds that each participant will receive a take-away caregiver guide.

In addition, there will be a special presentation on the state of Alzheimer’s research by Katrina Butler, Community Outreach Manager for Meridien Research, Spring Hill.

While the workshop is free and open to the public, reservations are requested so the organizer can provide adequate space and handouts.  To reserve your space(s), call Ana Raposo at 352-263-2300.  For more information about Coping with Dementia LLC, go to www.coping.today or find it on Facebook.
