Second Annual Old Homosassa Community Day

By Kathy Green Posted on March 21, 2018

So excited to announce that the Second Annual Old Homosassa Community Day will be April 7th from 9 am to 5 pm at the Homosassa Civic Club Campus, 5330 S. Mason Creek Road, Homosassa.  The same location that has the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival and the Shrimpapalooza.

We’ve been planning this event for several months and everything is coming together!  This will be FUN!

Several of our non-profit groups will have booths.  Save the Homosassa River Alliance, the Homosassa River Restoration Project, the Homosassa Civic Club, and the Old Homosassa Learning Center will all be taking part.

The Homosassa Civic Club and the Old Homossassa Heritage Council will have a limited number of their very popular t-shirts and posters available for a $15 donation!  (Both of the following paintings used for the t-shirt are by our own local artist, Gil Watson.)

Old Homosassa Community Day is also hosting the very first Old Homosassa Artist and Farmers’ Market.  If you are interested in participating, it’s not too late to sign up.  Only $20 for a booth this year!  All proceeds go to support the Old Homosassa Learning Center.

This is also a BIG fund raiser for the Old Homosassa Heritage Council (OHHC) and the American Legion Post 166.

OHHC will hold a yard sale inside of the Homosassa Civic Center.  They have been collecting items and storing them over the past year. (I hear that there will be several truck loads that need to be moved from the storage unit to the civic center.  I also have half my garage filled with STUFF for the big day!) Donations will also be accepted on Friday, April 6th, from 10 am to 7 pm at the Homosassa Civic Center.  So it’s time to clean out your garage and closets for a good cause! All proceeds from the yard sale will go to painting, lighting, and landscaping the Old Homosassa Water Tower.  If you are looking for some good bargains and unique items, this is the place to be.

Last year the American Legion Post 166 sold hotdogs and hamburgers and this year they have returned but have upped the game!  For 2018 it’s “Homosassa Goes Hog Wild”!  Pork dinners will be available for only $6.00!  They plan to start serving at 10:30 am.  (I’d suggest getting in line early!)  They will also have beer, wine, soda, and water available.  They are raising money for their building fund.

On the stage, Chuck Andrews has volunteered to run the “Open Mic”.  You may know Chuck from the Old Mill Tavern and several other local places where he performs.  I hear that he has already signed up several very talented musicians. (Can I drop a hint and say I heard a little rumor that maybe somone named JoJo will be there?)

The Homosassa Ukers will make their very first public appearance at 11:30 am!  (Good or bad, not sure, but you should stop by and check it out cause those people look like fun!)
