By Meaghan Goepferich Posted on January 20, 2021

On January 25, 2021, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a rehab project on the Withlacoochee State Trail (WST) in Citrus County. During the rehab work segments of the trail will be closed to users.

Segments of the Withlacoochee State Trail to Temporarily Close

Signs will be posted to advise the public of the closures.  Only one work segment will be closed at a time and only when work is being performed in that area.  Detours will not be available during the construction.  Each segment will be closed for approximately 3 to 6 weeks.

All trail users are asked to observe and respect the closed trail segments for safety reasons.

Additional information will be announced prior to closing each trail segment.  The project should take approximately five months to complete, weather permitting.

Construction and improvement segments in order of closure:

Two segments, starting at David St. and going north to CR486: These segments will have the pavement removed, new road base installed and repaved.

The segment north of N Citrus Springs Blvd to Haitian Dr.: This segment will have the pavement removed, new road base installed and repaved

The segment near MM 800, north of Floral City: This segment will have drainage improvements and the existing pavement will be milled and new pavement installed.

The WST and CR48 intersection: Crossing enhancements including trail user activated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon’s (RRFB), signs and road markings.

Anyone not familiar with RRFB’s can go to www.alerttodayflorida.com for information.

The contractor may adjust the sequence if necessary.
