September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the nation’s public libraries highlight the value of a library card. A public library card is your ticket to free educational resources and activities that bring families together. Libraries not only provide resources to parents and children that support early literacy and lifelong learning, but truly transform how families spend time together.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month

The Citrus County Library System will work with local schools to ensure that kindergarteners can receive their first library card this month. Participating classrooms will receive a coupon good for one free kid’s meal from locally participating Subway restaurants.

This September the characters from Toy Story will team up with the American Library Association to promote the value of a library card. As honorary chairs, Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the toys will remind families, students and people of all ages that a library card brings stories to life! Children who read and are read to at a young age develop greater reading comprehension skills, and tend to do better in school.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. It is a time when libraries nationwide join together to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.
