Sign up now for Hernando County summer camps

The Hernando County Parks & Recreation Department announces its summer camp schedule. A variety of camps are being offered for children ages 8-14. Some camps have limited enrollment and age limits differ by camp. There is a $15 fee per camper due at registration. A $50 deposit is due for specialty camps at registration.

Basketball – Enjoy one of the most requested camps, three weeks of basketball camp will be taught by Marion Jones and Calvin Brown. Both have coached many middle and high school teams. Learn the fundamentals of the game, drills and skills, followed by scrimmage games.

Cost: $70, Monday-Thursday
Limit: 50 campers
Location:  West Hernando Middle School
Ages: 8 to 14
Time: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.,        *7:30-9 a.m. or 3-4 p.m. is available for an additional $10
Dates:  June 5-8, June 19-22, July 10-13

Volleyball Camp – Two weeks of volleyball will teach fundamentals of the game. Daily drills and skills followed by daily inter-camp games. Team building, individual skills, and fun for all.

Cost: $70, Monday-Thursday
Limit: 50 campers

Ages: 8 to 14
Time: 9 a.m.-3 p.m., *7:30-9 a.m. or 3-4 p.m. is available for an additional $10
Dates:  June 26-29, July 24-27

Kayak Wednesdays – Join us on a paddling experience down the Weeki Wachee River and enjoy the splendor of nature. Campers must be able to swim; paddling experience is preferred but not needed. You will be guided down the river by HCPR staff and will end the adventure at Rogers Park. Please bring all snacks/lunch in water proof containers, sunscreen, bug spray and towel if you wish.  All tandem kayaks, paddles and floatation devices are provided.

Limit: 20 campers
Location: Weeki Wachee Springs
Ages: 8 to 14
Time: 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
Dates: May 31, June 7,14,21,28, July 5,12,19,26, August 2,9

Sports Camp – Enjoy a variety of indoor and outdoor sports activities, including basketball, flag football, tennis, dodge ball, kickball and more. Campers will spend each day learning the rules and playing the games of the most common sports they love to participate in.

Cost: $70, Monday-Thursday
Limit: 50 campers
Location:  West Hernando Middle School
Ages: 8 to 14
Time: 9 a.m.-3 p.m., *7:30-9 a.m. or 3-4 p.m. is available for an additional $10
Dates:  May 30-June 1, June 12-15, *July 5-7 (location change to Kennedy Park), July 17-20 *No Monday and Tuesday due to July 4th holiday; camp is prorated to $50 for this week.

Football – Learn the fundamentals of the game, drills, skills and conditioning. Camp will be conducted by Calvin Brown and Marion Jones who work with the high school football programs.

Location:  Delta Woods Park
Ages: 8 to 14
Time: 8 a.m.-2 p.m., *7:30-8 a.m. or 2-4 p.m. is available for an additional $10
Dates:  June 26-29, July 31-August 3

Horsin’ Around – Campers will be assigned a partner and each pair will be assigned one horse that they will ride and care for, for the week. The campers will be taught and expected to lead, groom, tack up, ride, feed and clean stalls for their assigned horse. The goal is to give the camper the true feeling of being a horse owner. While having the fun of riding is important, the work involved will be experienced as well.

Adventure Camp – Enjoy a short week of fun adventures. Kayaking on Wednesday, Bayport River Safari on Thursday, and Skyzone trampoline on Friday.

Cost: $90, Wednesday-Friday
Limit: 10 campers
Location:  Meets at Parks and Recreation Office
Ages: 8 to 14
Time: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Dates:  July 5-7

Outdoor Adventure Camp – Enjoy a week of outdoor adventures. We will be going offshore fishing, inshore fishing, kayaking down the Weeki Wachee, Fort Desoto Park, Adventure Island, Wild Florida, Rainbow River, Homosassa Springs, Weeki Wachee Springs, just to name a few. Very cool and educational week of camp. Special guest speakers, handouts and loads of fun on our beautiful Adventure Coast!

Week 1:
Cost: $120, Tuesday-Friday
Limit: 20 campers
Location:  Meets at West Hernando Middle School
Ages: 8 to 14
Time: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Dates:  *May 30-June 2, Offshore Fishing/ Fort DeSoto Park
*No Monday due to Memorial Holiday

Week 2:
Cost: $150, Monday-Friday
Limit: 20 campers

Time: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Dates:  June 19-23, Tree Hoppers/ Adventure Island

Week 3:
Cost: $150, Monday-Friday
Limit: 20 campers

Dates:  July 24-28, Offshore Fishing/ Fort Desoto Park

Week 4:
Cost: $150, Tuesday-Friday
