Strawberry Season is Here

By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on January 29, 2019

Happy New Year everyone! Strawberry season is here once more, and the JG Ranch fields are bursting with berries! We have 5 varieties of strawberries to try this year, and don’t worry they’re all sweet! A few of the varieties we’ve had before, and a few are brand new to us. All the rows marked so you can navigate and find your favorite one. Open Thursday through Sunday from 9am to 4pm. JG Ranch is located at 17200 Wiscon Road in Brooksville, right behind the hospital.

Fresh Vegetables to Pick

The garden is bursting with fresh vegetables! The ranch has its usual assortment of veggies this year. Currently,  there is Kale, Collard Greens, Mustard Greens, Swiss Chard, Cabbage, Lettuce, Broccoli, Jalapenos, Bell Peppers, and Eggplant.

Fresh Honey and Eggs

Farm Fresh Eggs are available, but they go fast! Be sure to show up early or call to reserve a dozen or two. You’re also welcome to bring bread to feed the chickens too!

The Casey’s try to keep local, raw honey stocked regularly. It comes in a few sizes and flavors. Currently there is Orange Blossom and Wildflower Honey that come in 3/4-pound bottles, 1-pound bottles, and 2-pound bottles.

Bring Some Boots!

Due to the surplus of rain we’ve had this season, there is a good supply of puddles and mud around. The Caseys suggest bringing some mud boots or old shoes if you want to traverse the more treacherous rows. Most of the field is dry or okay currently, but usually the muddier the row, the more berries you’ll find.

You can call JG Ranch for daily updates on availability and weather conditions at 352-799-0556 or check the Facebook Page.
