Citrus County Utilities is proud to announce the winners of the 2022 Drop Savers Poster Contest. 

Students Excel at Water Conservation Poster Contest

Five division winners were selected from participating schools throughout the County. Each elementary, middle, and high school winner’s art focused on the value of saving water and encouraged water-conservation behaviors.

This year’s contest theme was “Fixing Leaks Saves Water,” to raise awareness to the nearly 1 trillion gallons of water wasted from household leaks each year, according to the EPA Water Sense.

Division one winner, Crystal River Primary first grader Kinsley Collins, says “Save Every Drop – Life Depends on It.” Second grade, division two winner Lacie Dominey of Crystal River Primary asks that we never waste water. The division three winner Weiland Vanover, a fourth grader at Crystal River Primary, asks that we “Be Water Wise.”

Eighth grader Lilyan Bradshaw, of Inverness Middle School, placed first in division four with her drawing of Earth being squeezed and a message of “Don’t Let Life Run Dry.” Artwork by division five winner Julia Gaffney, a junior at Seven Rivers Christian School, encourages fixing leaks using an image of an octopus wielding tools.

All winning students earned a $25 prize. The division one through five winning teachers each received $50 for supplies, and a plaque displaying the prized artwork was issued to schools.  

Citrus County Utilities hosts the annual poster contest to raise awareness of simple ways to save water.  The contest supports the Keep Citrus County Beautiful Save Our Waters Week campaign, the Florida Section of American Water Works Association Drop Savers poster contest and the EPA Water Sense Fix a Leak Week campaign.
