By Kathy Green Posted on March 21, 2019

I’d like to invite everyone to come to Old Homosassa on April 6, 2019, to join in our third annual Old Homosassa Community Day. This is an opportunity for you to meet several of our local non-profit community groups and meet the people that are making a difference in your community. From 9 am to 5 pm at the Homosassa Civic Club’s festival grounds, 5530 South Mason Creek Road, Homosassa.

Yard Sale benefiting the Old Homosassa Heritage Council.  Donations for the yard sale will be accepted on Friday, April 5.

Centered around a yard sale that benefits the Old Homosassa Heritage Council and their current project of lighting up and landscaping the Old Homosassa Water Tower, there will also be arts and crafts vendors, local musicians, a cornhole tournament to benefit the Old Homosassa Learning Center and hamburgers and hotdogs will be served by the American Legion Post 166.

Homosassa Ukers–the ukulele group that is sponsored by the Homosassa Civic Club—will be next up and they will be followed by TrinityAnn Martinez. The rest of the day will be “Open Mic”

Now I want to take a moment to tell you a little bit about TrinityAnn. Last year during community day, TrinityAnn wowed us on the stage. She has an amazing singing voice and stage presence. All donations to TrinityAnn that day went to her taking part in the “Youth in Government” program. Soon to be fifteen years old, she is now a student at the Academy of Environmental Science. In addition, she is in the 4H and will be at the Citrus County Fair showing her rabbits and chickens, a sewing project, photography/art project, a horticulture exhibit, and an egg basket. TrinityAnn is also applying for an internship at Mote Aquarium this summer and donations during her performance this year will go towards her attending Coastal Camp Citrus at the Marine Science Station. Her long term goal is to be a Marine Biologist. Beautiful, talented, and she’s going to save our waters!

This will be the first year for Find-M Friends to participate. According to their Facebook page, “The purpose of this organization is to assist in the return of lost or abducted children and adults with Alzheimer’s, etc. by distributing scent evidence kits to the public. Kits are used to collect a fresh body scent to provide an uncontaminated scent for the purpose of a bloodhound to be able to track and find a child or person who is lost or has been abducted.” They will have scent kits available at their booth on community day!

The Homosassa River Restoration Project group will be on site to let you know about their advances on cleaning up the river along with the Save the Homosassa River Alliance.

Soda, water, and beer will be available for purchase. There is NO admission charge and pets are allowed. All proceeds go back to the community!

So mark your calendars! April 6. Another Fun Day in Old Homosassa!
