Thousands take part in Earth Day festivities
Pasco County’s 22nd Earth Day is hugely successful
Thousands of people showed up to celebrate Earth Day in Pasco County at Crews Lake Wilderness Park. Approximately 2,800 people attended the April 22, 2017 event – a 37% increase from 2016!
All the Earth Day activities focused on environmental educational with the help of 35 vendors including: Water Ventures Learning Lab, Florida Native Plants and Pasco Master Gardeners.
The rock decorating station was a huge hit, along with the upcycled tic-tac-toe boards with painted ladybug and bumblebee playing pieces.
This year’s event also featured a household hazardous waste collection. 141 people stopped by to drop off hazardous materials – an increase of 8% over last year. The following was collected:
- Latex paint – 3,740 lbs.
- Batteries – 300 lbs.
- Electronics – 7,155 lbs.
- Shredded paper – 5,000 lbs.
- Poison – 380 lbs.
