UF/IFAS Extension Citrus County Extension Service recently participated in the statewide 2022 Peanut Butter Challenge to collect jars of peanut butter for local families in need.

Peanuts are grown in north-central Florida, contributing over $150 Million to the state’s economy.

When the challenge ended on October 31, 278 jars of healthy, nutritionally dense, and shelf-stable peanut butter were collected, totaling more than 336 pounds of peanut butter. These were donated to the Community Food Bank and Citrus County Blessings to help citizens experiencing food insecurity.

Without strong community support, this challenge would not have been such an amazing success. UF/IFAS Extension Citrus County thanks all those involved in helping the community, including the Rotary Club of Inverness, Red Level 4-H Club and the Citrus County Community Centers.
