United Way of Citrus County Provides Grant for Meals on Wheels
United Way of Citrus County has funded a grant to Citrus County’s Meals on Wheels program for the provision of meals to Citrus County citizens in need. The purpose of this grant is to supply meals to Citrus residents who don’t qualify for the Meals on Wheels grant that is set up for seniors, age 60 or older who are homebound, unable to leave their home without assistance.
The United Way partnership with Meals on Wheels provides food that is prepared and ready to eat. While Citrus County has many food banks that are of great value to our citizens, there are people who are sick, such as going through chemotherapy, who are unable to prepare meals. The United Way funding allows the Meals on Wheels program to deliver nutritious daily meals that are watched over by dietitians to meet 1/3 of the daily recommended allowance of nutrition.
The United Way grant provides for approximately 1,995 meals annually to be served to people in need. If you are interested in more information regarding the Citrus County Meal on Wheels Program, please contact 352-527-5975.
