Vellamo – Finnish Folk Music Duo Live Concert January 19

By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on January 13, 2019

The Hernando County Public Library System (HCPLS) announces the free concert “Vellamo – Finnish Folk Music Duo Live” on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Spring Hill Branch Library (9220 Spring Hill Drive) from 2 to 3 p.m., sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hernando County, FL Inc. This special concert features the performing /songwriting team of Pia Leinonen and Joni Tiala.

Vellamo, a folk-rock gem, plays beautiful arrangements of traditional songs from the Finnish and Swedish traditions. Their music is reminiscent of 1960’s folk revival groups such as Richard and Mimi Farina; Peter, Paul, and Mary and Pentangle – but with a Scandinavian twist. It is characterized by haunting melodies,

Pia’s ethereal lead vocals and Joni’s virtuosic guitar stylings. They write instantly memorable songs in English as well as their native Finnish, and also perform traditional ballads from the Finnish and Scandinavian folk traditions.

Visit http://hernandocountylibrary.us/ or call (352) 754-4043 for more information.

The Friends of the Library of Hernando County, FL, Inc. are dedicated to advocacy and fund-raising for the library. Profits from the sale of used books at the Friends of the Library Little Red Schoolhouse Bookstore and other fundraisers are given back to the Library in support of programs. In the past five years the Friends have contributed over $84,000.
