Wildlife Park presents Winter Solstice programs Dec. 17
Park volunteer Elizabeth De Monte invites you to learn some fun and interesting facts about the Winter Solstice which is coming December 21, 2017. She will present two programs on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 11:00 am and at 2:00 pm (the Sunday before the Winter Solstice). The programs will be presented in the Florida Room of the park’s Visitor Center and main entrance located on US 19. There will be no charge to attend these programs.
De Monte says, “The program will explain the Winter Solstice, Wintering of Animals and Winter Myths. Ancient people didn’t know about Earth’s orbit but they still observed the solstice by noting what was happening in the skies overhead. Come find out about the relationship of the earth and the sun. Find out how animals prepare for winter in a variety of ways. Winter myths abound in geography books, travel brochures, Christmas cards and tales of Santa’s reindeer. Many of these will be discussed. Come and enjoy some new facts about our wonderful Earth and its creatures.”
These programs will take place at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in the Florida Room of the park’s Visitor Center, 4150 S. Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
