“Yarn Bombing” on The Avenue of Oaks in Floral City

By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on January 24, 2017

The Floral City Garden Club has blanketed some of the historic grandfather Oaks lining Orange Avenue in Floral City’s National Register Historic District as a Fund Raiser with a major benefactor being the Historic Oak Tree Replacement Fund.

It is called Yarn Bombing and you are invited to participate!

WHAT IS YARN BOMBING??

A Street art first done in Houston TX in 2005, where knitting is wrapped around objects and left for a few days. The only place we found that it has been done in Florida is in Jacksonville.

The Floral City Garden Club has used the idea for a fund raiser, asking people to knit a 12″ square and give it to us with $5.00 or give us $10.00 and we would knit the square. Squares went up Friday, 20 Jan. 2017, and will remain for 10 days.  Then they will be removed, washed and reconfigured into blankets/throws, and given to our VFW Post 7122 for use by Veterans.

Monetary donations still are being accepted for the Historic Oak Trees Replacement Fund.  Recycled milk jugs are located at many of the Floral City Businesses until the 28th or you can mail a donation to the Floral City Garden Club, P. O. Box 833, Floral City, FL 34436.

This is quite a site to see! Come to Floral City and drive along Orange Ave/C.R.48 where you will easily spot the trees in the first block past the Town Center.
